About a year ago we released this little gem of an album called ‘Lightships’!

Cassette Store Day

Saturday Oct 17th is Cassette Store Day and Super Fan 99 and Alcopop! have joined forces to put out a fantastic compilation tape that also features some of our new music!

There’s a catch though - there are only 50 copies that all feature 6 songs from the two labels plus one secret 7th track. So each tape has a different secret track, one of which is a demo version of our new song Please Tell Him I Said Hello.

We had the great pleasure of working with legendary drummer Pete Thomas on half of our new album and managed to capture some video footage of the actual studio take that ended up on “She’s Taking The High Road”.

A member of Elvis Costello’s Attractions and Imposters since the 70s, he’s also played on a huge amount of our favourite albums over the years (Los Lobos, Stina Nordenstam, Ron Sexsmith, Bonnie Raitt, Suzanne Vega etc.) and we thought it would be great to have him on our album…

So we asked him and to our delight it all worked out when he was over in the UK last summer! A super nice guy that it was an absolute joy to work with and the results sound fantastic of course too. Check it out.

The fantastic children’s book author and illustrator Viviane Schwarz came to our gig at Jamboree on Sunday and made this wonderful drawing of us!

Also, it’s been nice to hear that “I Can’t Dance Without Your Beat” has received more airplay on Amazing Radio and the video was featured on Swedish blog Blaskan. Yay!

To celebrate the UK release of “Lightships”, we’re playing a one-off gig at Jamboree in London this coming Sunday April 19th!

It’s a cross-arts night run by our label Dinner With Daisy Records and as usual on these soirées, the programme is as varied as it is exciting. Apart from a set from us and some other very talented musicians, you can expect talks about space exploration, ice sculptures and whatnot. You don’t want to miss this.

If not, you should hurry up and do so because they are selling like hot cakes! The first run has almost sold out and we only have a handful of copies left to sell directly through the label shop.

In other news, there’s been a bunch of radio and press appearances for our music this last week. We were very excited to hear that “I Can’t Dance Without Your Beat” has received airplay on Amazing Radio and also that “Arms That Never Held Me” was featured on The Joyzine Radio Show.

The video for “I Can’t Dance Without Your Beat” with its captivating dancing feet also got its Swedish premiere on Being Blogged the other day. “En riktigt mysig poplåt med tydliga 80-tals referenser. Till detta har de gjort en fantastisk video som har fokus på just dans - och fötter,” they said. Those of you in Sweden should not forget that we are visiting Stockholm on May 5th for a gig at Clarion Skanstull.

Besides a number of plays on the ever great Radio Helsinki and getting playlisted on Radio Vasa, we were also kept busy with a few radio and TV appearances last week.

If you live in Finland, you can have a listen to our interviews on Nöjesfredag and Fonden on YLE Vega as well as an interview with YLE Östnyland.

We also tried our best to look comfortable in the TV-sofa for YLE Fem’s Efter Nio, which you can watch here. (The interview starts at 41:55 with a performance of “Lightships” at 53:56 and is also available for viewers outside Finland.)

Why the smug faces, you ask?

The title track of our new album is a tale inspired by a family friend’s tragic last trip out at sea. Lightships lead the way.

The double A-sided single “I Can’t Dance Without Your Beat” / “Lightships” is produced by Kyösti Salokorpi and will be followed by an EP and then the album in the New Year.

It feels good to be back.
